Year of the Compartmentalised Dragon

Ever since arriving in Beijing on the 10th, I've been doing everything off the cuff and without much structure whatsoever. China so far has been a an incoherent slew of things, which has made it incredibly difficult to write anything like a chronological and coherent account of my doings here (of which there haven't been many.) So, unless my journey actually develops some sort of structure, I'll be posting about stuff more or less as I experience it, in categories. I have no idea if it will work, but it's worth a shot.

For now, if Seoul is a city hiding beneath a veil of superficiality, then Beijing is blatant and in your face. I love their public phone booths as well: futuristic, yet retro.

It was two days before I actually saw sunlight for the first time, so here are some night shots:

It just took me five minutes to upload five pictures and I'm just a lone guy with waning patience, so my next post will probably be when I move into the BLCU accommodation on Monday.

I should be (assuming most things go according to plan) meeting my friend Paddy tomorrow, which will be a nice change of pace. That guy's going to lose his head with all the delicious food here.

  1. Hey Charith its Gabby, I used to be in your chinese class at Macq.
Are you studying at BLCU for five weeks, starting on the 18th? Michael and I are doing the exact same thing!
