Amigos Numbering Three

Day 1 in South Korea wasn't meant to officially start till tomorrow, but the giddiness of realising my 17 year-old self's dream proved to be overpowering.

After a delicious homemade  Korean lunch of jak gok bap (black rice), seaweed, kimchi, mackerel, squid, potato and soup, (not to mention not dying on my old school razor) I headed out into the streets of Gangnam-gu with my friend Seung and his brother Song. As we made our way toward the Songdo Convensia, I couldn't help but smirk at all the looks people gave me. Also, giddiness still guiding, I almost burst into hysterics seeing my reflection in the mirror of a crowded train, as the contrast was... phenomenal.

Discovering our knack for continually missing bus stops, we decided it was time to get artistic in a martial way, followed up with some Korean fast food (which cost us roughly AUD$10 for 3 people) before our accommodation research for next week began. Unfortunately, by principle, I'm unable to post photos of food.

Now, I'm not sure that I ever would have believed it if someone told me this, but doing real life hotel/motel research makes for a great pastime. We were just three guys, making their way from motel to hotel in the wild world that is Seoul.

Even with the rationale that we would be living as princes in a castle, with any ladies brought back as princesses, we went with the Blue Motel (the neon umbrella and raindrops resonated with me.) Still, a part of me will keep wondering why I didn't choose to write blog posts inside a castle. As for the third option, it was ruled out when a patron caught me taking that photo.

Back home, we had kimchi and a rice noodle soup that women traditionally have when pregnant. By the end of this trip, I expect to have child-bearing hips at the very least.
